Tuesday Morning Sketches #250

If you are looking my my Shopping Our Stash - Triple Threat post, please click HERE

TUESDAY MORNING SKETCHES has a super cute sketch this week created by the super awesome crafty JESSI

As soon as I saw the sketch I knew I wanted to make a Christmas card with one of the super fab kits I bought at VICKY BOUTIN'S yard sale this past weekend.

You don't think PINK works for Christmas cards??? I beg to differ, look how stinkin' cute that little elf is in her glittery wee hat!!

I can see many more adorable (possibly pink) Christmas cards being made with this kit.

Shite I used to make this card:

  • White cardstock (Recollections)
  • Twine (The Twinery)
  • Boutique Buttons - Happy Holidays Assortment (Doodlebug Designs)
  • Boutique Brads - Happy Holidays Assortment (Doodlebug Designs)
  • Santa's Workshop cardstock stickers (Doodlebug Designs)
  • Santa's Workshop assorted cut-outs (Doodelbug Designs)
I am (obviously) entering this into TUESDAY MORNING SKETCHES #250

Shopping Our Stash #162 - Triple Threat

Happy Tuesday! This week's SHOPPING OUR STASH challenge is "Triple Threat."

We'd like you to use at least three of these:  Ribbon, flowers, lace, pearls, sprays/mists,  punched elements or die cut elements, rhinestones, doilies (stamped will work too), dry embossing or scoring OR use three of one type of embellishment.

Visit the SOS BLOG for all the details on the challenge and while you are there show my crafty teamies some lovin'!!

I call my tag for this challenge "THANKS JESSI!" as a LOT of the stuff on my card was a gift from Jessi at one time or another...sharin' the crafty lovin'!!

Here's what I came up with for the challenge using ribbon, flowers, punched elements and rhinestones:

The tag was a comedy of errors, I thought I was heat embossing with white embossing powder, nope, it was heat & stick powder...then grabbed the pewter by mistake...I guess it's not TOO bad with the rhinestones and other silver accents...and can you even tell I covered the whole tag with Squeezed Lemonade distress stain??? Didn't think so...

I also wasn't 100% (ok not even 1%) sure what to do with the gauze strip, so I laid it out on my Ranger craft sheet (just got one, best thing EVAH!!!) and stained it with the Peeled Paint distress stain...pretty awesome right?? LOL

Shite I used to make this card:
  • Kraft tag (Recollections)
  • Peeled Paint & Squeezed Lemonade Distress Stain (Tim Holtz)
  • Idea-ology Word Bands (Tim Holtz)
  • Yellow seam binding ribbon (Thanks Jessi!)
  • Gauze strip (Thanks Jessi!)
  • Flower and leaves (Thanks Jessi!)
  • Baker's twine (from Lunch Bags lunch order)
  • Library clip (SU)
  • Elegant Butterfly punch (SU)
  • Rhinestones (SU)
  • Stapler and staples
  • Daffodil Delight cardstock (SU)
  • Water spritzer (SU)
  • Pewter emboss powder
  • Versamark ink

SoSS Challenge #13 - L is for Layer

Not sure who that stalker is creeping up on Flat Edna through the flowers there, but he better watch it, she's a sassy dame!!

This week's Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers challenge is "L is for Layer." The sisters would like you to make a one layer card (card base + a layer is OK, but no more layers than that).

Visit the SOSS BLOG for all the details on the challenge and while you are there show my snarky sisters some lovin!!

I recently purchased the "F Bomb" stamp set from the lovely EMILY and couldn't wait to get it inky...here's what I came up with for this challenge:

I can never work directly on a card base when making a one layer card...I always bugger something up, so I chose to do one layer on my card base. I shredded and inked up the edges of the layer with my fancy dancy new ink blending tool, chose some bright colours for my profanity and Bob's yer uncle!

Shite I used to make this card:
  • Whisper White cardstock (SU)
  • F Bomb stamp set (Kelly Purkey)
  • Dude, You're Welcome stamp set (SU)
  • Gorgeous Grunge stamp set (SU)
  • Frayed Burlap, Red Brick, Mowed Lawn and Broken China distress inks (Tim Holtz)
  • 1 1/2 inch circle punch (not sure who makes it, but it's crappy and doesn't cut properly)

Want to play along with the Sisterhood??? Of course you do!!! You have until 11:55 pm EDT on Friday August 8th to upload your project to the SOSS BLOG

Until next time...stay crafty my friends!!

Scraptures Finally Friday - July 25, 2104

For this week's flashback Finally Friday on SCRAPTURES I pulled out my January 2014 card kit which feaured Little Yellow Bicycle "Winter Twig."

I have to admit I had WAY too much fun making winter themed cards in the heat of July!

See that haze around the edges of some of the pictures??? That's humidity steaming up the lens of my camera quicker than I could take pictures!! It's kinda hot right now here in Southern Ontario!

As one of those people who complained about the cold this past winter, I refuse to complain about the heat...but I will say that I am super grateful we moved into a house with central air conditioning :)

Here are the cards I made with the January 2014 card kit:

Shite I used to make these cards:
  • Woodland winter paper pack (Bo Bunny)
  • Kraft cardstock (Hollo's)
  • Winter Twig cardstock sticker borders (Little Yellow Bicycle)
  • Winter Twig cardstock sticker labels (Little Yellow Bicycle)
  • Winter Twig cardstock stickers "Fresh Verse" (Little Yellow Bicycle)
  • Felt snowflakes
  • Let It Snow tag (We R Memory Keepers)
  • Frayed Burlap distress ink (Tim Holtz)
  • Ink blending tool (Ranger)

Happy Birthday Kevinator!!!

Today is the Kevinator's birthday.

If you know me at all I am not really a touchy feely romance kinda chick...so I find it kinda tough to make lovey dovey cards...cards with the profanity...no problem...but not ALWAYS appropriate.

Anyway, I was cruising Pinterest (as one does) and found THIS CARD using the "Dude, You're Welcome" and "Gorgeous Grunge" stamp sets from Stampin' Up!

I think it's kinda funky and romance-y all at once no?

Hopefully the Kevinator will think so....HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

Shite I used to make this card:
  • Kraft, red and white cardstock (Recollections)
  • Frayed Burlap distress ink (Tim Holtz)
  • Ink blending tool (Ranger)
  • Gorgeous Grunge stamp set (SU)
  • Dude, You're Welcome stamp set (SU)
  • Small heart punch (SU)
  • Bling (SU)

Shopping Our Stash #161 - 5 a Day

This week's challenge at SHOPPING OUR STASH is "5 a Day" we want you to use fruits or veggies somewhere on your project.

My friend Brandy would be so proud of me for this one...I broke into the Cherry-O papers that I got from her....ohhhhhhh let's see...I think it was 2010?? I love them so much that I have resisted using them...until now.

As of last summer, we now live in the Niagara Region, aka the "Fruit Belt." The area is famous for cherries and peaches. You can get amazingly fresh cherries at the farmers markets and farm stalls around town right now and they are soooooooo good! And it makes good sense to me to buy from  local farmers when you can.

Hubster's birthday is coming up this week, this past weekend his parents had a family BBQ for his birthday. I made these fun BOX IN A BAG as a little gift for his mom and aunt...what am I going to put in them?? Cherries of course!!

Want to make one for yourself? They are super easy and make such cute little gifts...here's a link to the tutorial on Splitcoaststampers that I always use for these:

Scraptures Finally Friday - July 18, 2014

Time for another Finally Friday at SCRAPTURES.

This week's Finally Friday Flashback cards are made with the June 2013 card kit which featured Pretty Little Studios "Monsieur."

I made over a dozen cards from the kit when I sat down to use the kit - yep got a little carried away - but it feels good to use up stuff in my crafty stash!

Not to mention that I always struggle to make masculine cards....this kit made that super easy.

Here are three of the cards I made from the kit:

My challenge for you this month is to make projects from kits that you have in your stash...let's see what you can come up with!

Random Snarky Thursday

I've been having fun playing with washi tape and snarky sentiments.

I made a few cards with a fun stamp set from Graphicat Stamps...sadly, I think they are no longer in business, which is really too bad because I LOVE their snarky stamps!

Shopping Our Stash ~ Challenge #160 ~ I Just Can't Put It Down

This week's SHOPPING OUR STASH challenge is "I Just Can't Put It Down" ...yes you can sing that to the tune of "I just can't get enough" by Depeche Mode...trust me, I have been all afternoon...and you are welcome for that earworm!!

Back to the challenge...we want you to use something on your project that you are using ALOT recently.

For me this was an easy one...washi  tape and bling, it's like Frank's hot sauce, I put that shite on everything. I blame my current washi obsession on LESLIE as she makes such awesome washi cards I just can't resist (OK that and I have a whole basket full of washi tape!!)

My two favourite Josh's have birthdays in August, I have a hard time making cards for dudes in their 20's...do they even want cards??? I figure I can't go wrong with skulls and a kinda snarky sentiment right???

Anyway, here's what I came up with for the challenge...the sentiment oval is popped up on a wobbler.

 SUPPLIES:
White and black cardstock (Recollections)
Skull washi tape (SU)
Black Soot distress ink (Tim Holtz)
Graphicat stamp
Oval punch (Marvy)
 Bling strip (Michaels)
Wobbler
Join in the fun on the SOS BLOG and while you are there be sure to show my crafty sisters some lovin!!

Medallion Birthday

I love the SU medallion stamp...love love love it...it's one of those stamps that I don't use very often, but when I do, I think "ya, I really love that stamp." LOL

I need to make a birthday card for one of my crafty friends whose birthday is later in the month, I knew I wanted to do an embossed medallion in two colours with some bling...came out pretty close to what I had envisioned.

Whisper White cardstock (SU)
Medallion stamp (SU)
#hastags stamp set (Tim Holtz)
Dusty Concord & Broken China distress stains (Tim Holtz)
White embossing powder (Michaels)
Versamark ink

SoSS #12 - B is for Brads or Buttons

Edna brought some hunky friends to play along with this challenge...hopefully you will be able to look away from the eye candy (I'm having some difficulty myself...hellllloooooo Mr. Pitt....rawwwwrrrrr).

This week the Snarky Sisters want you to use Brads or Buttons (or both!!!) on your project.

Visit the SOSS BLOG for all the details on the challenge and while you are there check out the blogs of my snarky sisters and show them some crafty love.

I have had soooooo much fun the last few weeks playing along with the SHOPPING OUR STASH and JINGLE BELLES Christmas in July challenge that I decided to dig into another old card kit and make some more Christmas cards!

Taking a page from the book of SISTER LINDSEY I made not one but two cards!!

I am still enjoying being able to take pictures of Christmas cards in my garden. tried to capture some of the "vintage" barnboard of my neighbours garage...lol if he ever tears that down I hope I inherit that wood!

Kinda hard to see in the pictures, but there is a layer of acetate on each card (attached with staples) and I've used clear sparkly buttons on both cards.

Want to play along with the Snarky Sisters?? Course ya do...just upload your project to the SOSS BLOG by 11:55 pm (EDT) on Friday July25th and maybe YOU will be our next Queen or Princess of Snark!

I'd like to enter these cards in the following challenge:

Simon Says Stamp - Let's Be Clear Challenge
(I used acetate and clear buttons on both cards)

Looking for my Shopping Our Stash / Jingle Belles Christmas in July Bonus Challenge Week 2 post?? Please click HERE

When Christa asked me to do some projects for this month's Finally Friday at SCRAPTURES I thought it would be a great opportunity to go back to some of my card kits and make cards to add to my stash. I am calling the projects "Finally Friday Flashback" lol.

This week I made three cards with the April 2014 card kit which featured "Hello My Name Is" by Teresa Collins. I adore the pretty design papers that came in the kit, the deep red, black, white and kraft work really well together. I also used a few more of the wooden embellishments that came with the kit (YAY me!!!).

The only item I added to the cards that wasn't in the kit is the black and white twine on the first card.

So let's see what Finally Friday Flashback projects you can create by going back to some older kits and using up stuff in your stash!

Shopping Our Stash - Bonus Challenge - Christmas in July - Week 2

Welcome to week two of the SHOPPING OUR STASH and JINGLE BELLES Christmas in July bonus challenge!! There is something to be said for making Christmas cards in the middle of summer!!

Visit both blogs (linked above) for details on the challenge and while you are there show my teammies some crafty Christmas love.

So we're going back to December 2012 again for my second card, made from the same card kit that I used for my first card for this challenge - clearly I need to do a better job of actually using my card kits!!

The only thing I added this time was the Crumb Cake cardstock and ink (SU) which have both been in my stash for at least a year. From the kit I used Echo Park “Very Merry Christmas” design paper, AC Cardstock gold glitter paper and some more of the maraschino twine.

SOS #159 - Wooden Ships

Time to set sail (ha ha) for this week's SHOPPING OUR STASH challenge....Wooden Ships. For this challenge we would like you to use wood / veneer OR ships / sailing somewhere on your project.

I went for wood / veneer on my card. I'm never really sure what to do with these wooden  embellishments so I just kinda randomly used some...and then added some mini wooden clothespins for good measure LOL

Am I kicking myself for getting rid of the Open Seas stamp set??? You betchya!!

Everything on this card is from my stash. The newest items are the enamel dots which were a Valentine's present this year from my 11 year old. The papers are from a 2012 card kit which featured "Gypsy Sisters" by Kaiser Craft. I love the colours and patterns on the papers.

SUPPLIES:
Bazzil Basics cardstock (card base)
Kaiser Craft "Gypsy Sisters" design paper
DYNA satin burgundy ribbon
Prima decorative wood embellishments
Recollections enamel dot stickers
Mini clothespins (Dollarama)
Teresa Collins "Hello My Name Is" decorative stickers
Recollections washi tape
Burlap strip

This week's challenge is Inspirational or Uplifting Words or Quotes...here's what I came up with:

I used a sticker from the "Hello My Name Is" collection by Teresa Collins that has one of my favourite Mae West quotes: "You only live once but if you do it right once is enough"

Kraft cardstock (Recollections)
"Hello My Name Is" design paper & sticker (Teresa Collins)
Kraft twine (from my stash)

I just added some gold sequins (also at least a year old) and voila Christmas in July...I love that you can see the garden through the card.
