SoSS #166 - V is for Vulgarity

Greetings and salutations crafty pals!

Thanks for stopping by to check out the latest challenge from Edna and the sisterhood of snarky stampers.

SISTER CHRIS is our challenge host and our theme is V is for Vulgarity.

I am not sure if what I made is vulgar?? I went with this definition "lacking sophistication or good taste; unrefined" ...well...if that's not me in a nutshell, I don't know what is!

Perhaps I drew some inspiration from SISTER CHRIS' card for the D is for Dogs challenge...

Just some friendly fun poking towards our esteemed Prime Minister and something funny he said about "speaking moistly" in one of his national COVID addresses.

The image is a still from the show "Our Cartoon President" which honestly I have never seen, but this image came up when I googled Justin Trudeau cartoon - and I thought it worked for what I wanted to do.

Shite I used to make this card:

  • White cardstock (Recollections)
  • Image of Justin Trudeau (Our Cartoon President / Google)
  • Alphabet stamp set (Dollarama)
  • Black Soot distress ink (Tim Holtz)
  • Maple Leaf stamp (Studio G)
  • Rocket Red ink (Dew Drop)
  • Foam tape (Dollar Tree)
As always, we would love for you to join the sisterhood and play along.

You can find all the details for the challenge on the SoSS BLOG.

While you are there, please share some love and comments with the rest of the sisterhood.

Shopping Our Stash # 372 - Welcome Home

Greetings crafty friends!

Thanks for stopping by to check out the latest challenge from the crew at SHOPPING OUR STASH

This week our host is Mimi with a theme compliment of Deena

Our theme this week is Welcome Home...that means we want to see something on your project using items that represent where you live (or maybe where you come from).

I live in wine country in Southern Ontario, however, not only do I NOT drink wine...I also have zero wine themed crafting supplies, so I went with a broader theme of being Canadian.

My parents left England in 1967, right after they got married, mum was 19 and dad was 21. They came to Canada with nearly nothing...and never left. I can't even imagine leaving my home, leaving everyone and everything I knew behind. It's amazing to me and I am ever so grateful that they did!

Shite I used to make this card:

  • White cardstock (Fireworx)
  • Red cardstock (Recollections)
  • Maple leaf punch (EK Success)
  • Healthy Vibes stamp set (Paper Smooches)
  • Sentiment stamps (Studio G)
  • Tuxedo Black ink (Memento)
As always, we would love for you to join our crew and play along!

You can find all the details for the challenge on the SHOPPING OUR STASH BLOG

While you are there, please share some love and comments with the rest of the crew.

SoSS #118 - L is for Leaves

Greetings snarky pals!

Thanks for stopping by today to check out this week's challenge from Edna and the sisterhood of snarky stampers!

Looks like Edna has had her fill of hot summer days and is ready for the cooler days and falling leaves of fall.

We want to see leaves somewhere on your project this time around.

I picked up a super cute Canada themed die cut pack on my recent visit to Winnipeg, I was stuck for leaves, then remembered the pack must have a maple leaf or two in it somewhere...YEP...good to go for a leaf challenge!!

Shite I used to make this card:
  • White cardstock (Fireworx)
  • Kraft cardstock (Recollections)
  • O Canada cardstock die cuts (Photoplay)
As always, we would love for you to join the sisterhood and play along.

You will find all the details for the challenge on the SoSS BLOG.

While you are there, please share some loves and comments with the our reigning queen and the rest of the sisterhood!

Shopping Our Stash #340 - Olympics

Greetings crafty friends!

Thanks for stopping by today to check out the latest challenge from the crew at SHOPPING OUR STASH

With the winter olympics starting soon, we are turning our attention to sports!

That means that your project needs to feature a sport...any sport!

I am both a #proudcanuck and a hockey fan, so I tried to replicate a Team Canada hockey jersey (albeit a short sleeved one)

You know how hockey jerseys have that meshy kind of texture to them? I used the reverse side of the swiss dots embossing folder to try to recreate that.

Shite I used to make this card:

  • White cardstock (Fireworx)
  • Red and black cardstock (Recollections)
  • T shirt die
  • Swiss Dots embossing folder (Provo Craft)
  • Maple leaf punch (EK Success)
  • Fishtail / Banner die set (Your Next Stamp)
  • Tuxedo Black ink (Memento)
  • #proudcanuck stamp (Michaels)
As always we would love for you to join our crew and play along.

You can find all the details on the SHOPPING OUR STASH BLOG.

Shopping Our Stash #310 - Flag Day

Greetings friends!

Thanks for stopping by today to check out the latest challenge from the crew at SHOPPING OUR STASH

With both Canada Day and Independence Day happening this week, we want you to see the colours (or colors) of your flag!!

I made a red and white Canadiana inspired tag.

Some of my very best memories as a kid were camping in Algonquin Park with my family every summer.

I might have had my first kiss right there at Rock Lake!!

My dad used to take us "moose hunting" at dusk, which really meant we were driving around looking for wildlife...we saw lots of beavers, lots of moose and the occasional bear!

I owe my super amazing campfire skills to my dad and what we call "the Whiteman school of fire building."

I didn't have any twine to  match my tag, so I pulled some white twine through the Candied Apple ink pad a few times and voila, matchy matchy!

Shite I used to make this tag:

  • Kraft tag (Recollections)
  • Candied Apple distress ink (Tim Holtz)
  • Whip Cream ink (Fun Stampers Journey)
  • Water spritzer (SU)
  • White cardstock (Fireworx)
  • Fishtail / Banner die set (Your Next Stamp)
  • Canada themed stamps (Studio G)
  • Maple leaf punch (Martha Stewart)
  • White twine
As always we'd love for you to join the crew and play along.

You can find all the details for the challenge on the SHOPPING OUR STASH BLOG

While you are there, please share some loves with the rest of the crew!

SOS #158 - Red, White & Blue

Happy Canada Day!!! As you read this post I will be chillaxing on Prince Edward Island taking in the salty ocean air!

I found this CANADIAN FLAG CARD online and thought it was perfect for this challenge (helps that I have that same Canadian Pride stamp).

SOS 136 Cabin Fever

Happy Happy Tuesday!! Time for another challenge at SHOPPING OUR STASH. This week's theme is Cabin Fever. Visit the blog for all the details on this challenge and to show my teammies some crafty love.

I chose to go with the "something outdoorsy" part of the challenge and make a Team Canada themed hockey card for my cousin for his birthday. I wanted the jersey to look well worn, beat up, bloody....kinda like the jersey he would wear for pond hockey (yeah it's short sleeved, we Canadians are a tough bunch!!!). I did a LOT of distressing on the card, layers and the jersey. The white layers I spritzed with red marker to look like blood.

I am notorious *GASP* for cutting up my stamps so I can use them in other ways, especially sentiment stamps. This stamp originally said "What's Up Canuck?" I didn't like the border on the stamp, I wanted it all in a wonky line and I didn't want the 's on the end of what...so I butchered it to get what I wanted and I like it MUCH better!! I heat embossed the maple leaf on the jersey and the sentiment.

Here's a closer look at the jersey...

SUPPLIES:
Black, white & red cardstock (Recollections)
Real Red & Basic Black markers (SU)
Marker spritzer (SU)
Versamark
Black embossing powder
Studio G stamps (Michaels) - Maple Leaf & What's Up Canuck?
T shirt die (My Favourite Things)

Scraptures Wild Card Wednesday - October 23, 2013

It's Wednesday, over on Scraptures that means it's time for another Wild Card Wednesday challenge. This month I have been making cards to send to Canadian troops overseas using the "Operation Write Home" stamp set that came in this month's card kit. I think this one is my favourite so far.

I inked up the stencil with early espresso ink and then rubbed it directly onto the kraft cardstock.
I wanted the card to have a distressed / well travelled look, so I shredded all the edges with scissors and crinkled up the leaves.

SUPPLIES:
Early Espresso cardstock (SU)
Kraft cardstock (Recollections)
Cranberry cardstock (October card kit)
Early Espresso ink (SU)
Operation Write Home stamp set (Hero Arts)
Woodgrain Stencil (Prima)
Maple Leaf punch (Martha Stewart)

Remember, if you want to send a card overseas to show your support of our troops, here's the address again:

PO Box 5140 Stn Forces
Belleville ON K8N 5W6

Scraptures Wild Card Wednesday, October 16, 2013

It's Wednesday!! Over on SCRAPTURES that means it's time for another Wild Card Wednesday!! I have loved working with the stamp set and papers in this month's card kit. This one will also be sent to overseas to a member of the Canadian Forces, if you'd like to do the same, here's the address:

 Any Canadian Forces Member
Op Attention
Kabul
PO Box 5140 Stn Forces
Belleville ON K8N 5W6

The house was stamped three times, first time on white, the roof and chimney coloured in, then again on the DP and cut out, the last time again on white, the doors and windows coloured and cut out. I wanted the house to look a bit like a polariod picture, so I layered a piece of blue cardstock on the white with a wider edge at the bottom (the white is 3 x 3.5" the blue is 2.75 x 3 ").

Because the card is going overseas, I added two tiny maple leafs again in the bottom corners with my $1.50 punch from Michael's.

 SUPPLIES:
Blue & white cardstock (gift from my friend Georgina)
Walnut Stain, Weathered Wood & Pumice Stone distress markers (Tim Holtz)
Baja Breeze ink (SU)
Tuxedo Black ink (Memento)
Memories Captured paper pad (Fancy Pants)
Operation Write Home stamp set (Hero Arts)
Maple Leaf punch (Recollections)

Scraptures WCW October 9, 2013

Happy hump day!!! It's Wednesday, time for another WCW challenge on SCRAPTURES.

I made two of these cards to send to troops overseas, here's the address again if you would like to send a card:

Any Canadian Forces Member
Op Attention
Kabul
PO Box 5140 Stn Forces
Belleville ON K8N 5W6

I used gathered twigs distress stain directly on the embossing folder before running it through the cuttlebug to get a better woodgrain look on the kraft paper...I'm pretty happy with how that came out. The little maple leafs are a punch I got at Michael's for $1.50...how could I NOT buy it???

SUPPLIES:
Operation Write Home stamp set CL583 (Hero Arts)
Early Espresso ink (SU)
Cherry Cobbler seam binding ribbon (SU)
Vanilla and kraft cardstock (Recollections)
Cherry Cobbler cardstock (SU)
Woodgrain embossing folder (Sizzix)
Gathered Twigs distress stain (Tim Holtz)
Maple Leaf mini punch (Recollections)
Design paper (SU, retired)

Say thanks to our troops...

So...in the aftermath of World Card Making Day and the fantastic CANADIAN blog hop that I participated in...I sat looking at my card (see post below) and thought to myself...I really do like this card...what am I going to do with it now???

For some reason this very Canadian card made me think of my stampin friend Gigi and her son who is in the armed forces and recently returned from overseas...that got me to thinking about how grateful I am for the hard work of our armed forces all over the world.

Well?? HELLO! Earth to Donna...that's what I should to with this card...send it to our troops, let them know that someone back home is thinking of them...

So I did a bit of research this morning and found a website with addresses to send a card to "Any Canadian Forces Member" here's the link if you are interested:
http://www.mdn.ca/site//Commun/message/addresses-2-eng.asp

So my Canadian card will be making its way overseas to Afghanistan soon to a member of the Canadian Forces, how cool is that??? Hopefully with a bit of time, I can make some more and send them on their way...

Oh Canada!!

OK, yeah, it's a little early for Canada Day celebrations...

I made these cute little flags from a new stamp from the SU Summer Mini and some sucker sticks that I bought for some crafty purpose and then never used...ya ya...I do that a lot...

Don't mind the dirty cutting mat under the flags, didn't realize how yucky that looks til now...maybe I should clean that!

Oh Canada...

Ok so it's a little early, but I am starting to work on some Canada Day cards. Here's sample #1:

While you are feeling patriotic, check out "Oh Canada" by Classified (I love it).

"North of America, hard to ignore..."
