I had set out for this challenge to make some cute little Thanksgiving notecards to send to friends and family...then realized I didn't have time to get them in the mail. I thought Thanksgiving was at least another week away (for us Canadians) but it wasn't....UGH...oh well...I'll save em for next year lol

Your truly is the host this week and our theme is "So Thankful"...that means we want to see something related to Thanksgiving, being thankful or a thank you somewhere on your project.

Here in Canada, Thanksgiving was in October, so I chose to focus on a few (of the many) things I am most thankful for...

Those include...family, friends, where and who I come from, where I call home, a job that keeps a roof over my head and my family fed, the freedom to visit other parts of the world...those who fought to protect all of the things I am thankful for...I have so much privilege that I take for granted on a daily basis.

Not sure if you can see it very well in the picture, but I hand stitched the orange paper piece towards the bottom,  maybe should have used a different colour thread...anywho...

We all have many blessings and things to be thankful for, sometimes we need to be reminded to count those blessings and not focus on all the negative shite, which, let's be honest, in the world we live in today, can be pretty overwhelming.

I went with the latter, with a snarky twist, because, you know, I am super grateful for my super snarky friends! They make me feel slightly less crazy than I feel most days!

Can you believe that we are in the last week of August already?? 

September is just a few short days away...what happened to summer??

Here in Southern Ontario, the kidlets will be heading back to school (YAY) right after Labour Day (YAY).

This week the crew at SHOPPING OUR STASH want to know what your favourite season is.

Fall is my favourite season, the changing of the leaves, the weather getting cooler...I just love it!

Shopping Our Stash # 223 - I Can See Clearly

This week's theme at SHOPPING OUR STASH is "I Can See Clearly"

The SOS crew would like to see acetate somewhere on your card (or you could make a shaker card).

I am completely shaker card impaired, so I used acetate. I like the look of an embossed acetate sheet as the card base, so that's what I did.

It's kind of hard to see in the picture, but the front of the card is embossed with a spider web.

Scraptures - Finally Friday - November 7, 2014

I'm on tap for the SCRAPTURES Finally Friday challenges for November.

I am determined to get caught up on some 2013 layouts before 2015 arrives!!

I have a bunch of 8x8 scrapbooks (SU) that I need to fill, for some reason I don't find 8x8 layouts as intimidating as 12x12 layouts LOL

This week's Finally Friday layout is from our visit to Howell's Family Pumpkin Farm last October.

It's crazy looking at these pictures of Joel with Grandma and Grandpa de Jong and seeing how much he has grown / changed since last year. He doesn't have those cute chubby cheeks anymore!

I used the September card kit which featured "Harvest Lane" by Simple Stories for the layout. It has fantastic fall themed design papers and embellishments.

SOS 172 - It's the Most Colourful Time of the Year!!

It IS the most colourful time of the year! I don't know about where you are but here in the Niagara Region of Southern Ontario the leaves have definitely started to change colour. I live at the base of the escarpment and I can see all of the beautiful fall colours in my yard and up the "mountain."

This week the SOS crew would like you to use fall colours - red, orange, rust, yellow, gold, brown, etc. on your project.

Happy Thanksgiving - part two

We are off to Oshawa today to have Thanksgiving dinner with my family and to celebrate #1 phew's birthday. Before we go, wanted to show you some projects we made in the craft room yesterday.

Here are the Thanksgiving cards I made for family this year, Joel helped by punching and crinkling the leaves for me. Pretty easy cards to make, kraft cardstock base (Recollections), old olive (SU) layer, strip of DP (retired SU), coloured the sentiment (SU) with pumpkin pie and old olive markers (SU) on whisper white cardstock (SU). The leaves are early espresso, dusty durango (SU) and kraft (Recollections). The leaves were punched with a Martha Stewart punch, water spritzed and crinkled.

Joel wanted to make some more Thanksgiving gifts, this time for aunts and uncles. Here are the toilet paper roll turkeys we came up with. We covered the toilet paper roll in kraft cardstock (Recollections), made the beak from dusty durango (SU) and used the modern label punch (SU) to make feathers from cardstock scraps.

Gobble till ya wobble!!!

Sending Happy Thanksgiving wishes to all the Canadian peeps who are celebrating this weekend! We have not one, but TWO big family turkey dinners this weekend (one with each set of grandparents).
Today we worked on some Thanksgiving presents for grandparents, a paper pumpkin for the table and a turkey card.

Here's the pumpkin, complete with a paper vine and leaf, Joel wanted to put some straw inside to make it look like it just came from the farm.

To make the pumpkin we cut 8 strips (1' x 11") from dusty durango cardstock (SU). Punched a hole in the top and bottom of each strip, secured with a brad and them moved the strips around to make the pumpkin shape. The vine and leaf are gumball green cardstock (SU). Joel drew and cut out the leaf, we wrapped the vine strip around a pencil to make it curly.

 

For the turkey we traced and cut out two hands, one for the base, one for the fingers. Good thing I stocked up on washi tape! We used the snowflake punch (SU) for the turkey feet and the word window punch for whatever that thing in that turkeys have hanging off their neck. Then we addded googly eyes and a beak and voila...turkey card.

Gobble til ya wobble!!!

Yep, it's Thanksgiving weekend...I am lucky enough to have two big Thanksgiving dinners this weekend - me who doesn't even eat turkey!! But I do love all the fixin's!!
And Happy Columbus Day to my American friends!
Whether you are celebrating Thanksgiving or Columbus Day, hope you are spending it with friends and family and that you have an extra day off work!!! WOOT WOOT for that!!

With two Thanksgiving dinners to go to, I need quite a few Thanksgiving cards (whoda thunk that??).
I made a few more similar to the cards I made for my co-worker, but had run out of tags and thought it needed something...so I bought this super cute Martha Stewart leaf punch (yes I love her crafty stuff!!) from Michael's and voila...

 

This second card I made at a Jenn Tinline stamp a stack a few weeks ago, I love the colours and making banners from the design paper...she designs some really cool cards. If you are in the Burlington area, you should totally check out some of her classes, they are a lot of fun! Happy Almost Thanksgiving

One of my co-workers asked me to make a set of 12 Thanksgiving cards for her.
At their thanksgiving dinner, they are going to pass the cards around and everyone writes something on that person's card that they are thankful for - what a great idea!! I got all 12 cards made at the Scraptures crop yesterday (yay me).

Yep - here in Canada it's our Thanksgiving weekend!

Mmmmmmm pumpkin pie!!!

I am looking forward to a busy weekend of spending time with friends and family (and hopefully some time in the craft room too!!)

Here's a card I made for our autumn / fall class this week. Having finally figured out how to use my marker spritzer, I used three colours of spritz on the background.

Happy Turkey Day

Hmmmm - so here's the punch turkey - and now that I have made him, I am not all too keen on him, he's definately hitting the dinner table...hahahaha


For all the work he was - lots of fiddly parts, I don't see too many punch turkey cards in my future!


My favourite part of this card is the crumpled up / torn / inked paper bag behind the jive turkey :)

Scallop Punch Pumpkins

Yep - it's Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada.



Hooooray for the last long weekend of 2009!!!



Thought I would try my hand at making some little pumpkins with the scallop punch.



The one on the left was made first, and then I thought...ohhhh pumpkins are bumpy, I should probably crimp the paper first. I think I like the crimped one better...




Now - off to make a scallop punch turkey hahaha.
