Shopping Our Stash #149 - May Day
This week's challenge on SHOPPING OUR STASH is May Day. Did you know that May 1st is May Day??? Well...now ya do!! For this challenge we would like you to use something inspired by the May Pole -- can be ribbon, something twisted, rainbow colors, or just something very tall and skinny -- LOTS of options!
For some reason unknown to me, I decided to do a canvas...a canvas bigger than any canvas I have every attempted before. I had visions of a May Pole made from a popsicle stick wrapped in ribbon with flowers on top, burlap ribbon, a vintage image....really...WHAT WAS I THINKING???
I started by using Gesso on the stencil then setting it aside to dry. At this point I don't think you can even see the honeycomb under everything else. I also found the vintage image I wanted to use (thank you Google) and made the May Pole.
A few days later I came back to it, used mod podge to stick down the pieces of the book and then mod podged over top again, set aside to let it dry.
A few days later I came back to it (are you seeing a theme here??) and finished the whole thing off...an inky mess of distress stains, marker spritzer, flower punch and a whole lotta double sided tape and dimensionals to keep everything in place and VOILA a May Day canvas.
Shopping Our Stash #148 - Happy Earth Day!!
Happy Earth Day to you and Happy Birthday to my momma!!!
This week's Shopping Our Stash challenge is an ode to Earth Day - we want you to upcycle or recycle something...take something old, work your magic and turn it into something new!
Visit the SHOPPING OUR STASH blog for all the details on this challenge and to show my teammies some earthy crafty love!!!
For this challenge I started with this mini egg tube - which was obviously empty because those little pieces of chocolate heaven are my favourite!!!!
And I turned it into this skull and bat piggy bank.
Pretty cool huh??? Let's see what you can recycle or upcycle for this challenge!
Everything on this project came from my stash:
- Bat design paper (can you even see it under the washi tape??)
- Halloween washi tape (SU)
- Skull die
- Bat punch (SU)
- Glittery skull and crossbones (Michaels)
- Basic Black cardstock (SU)
I stenciled!!!
I have been accumulating a LOT of stencils...I see other people do really cool things with them, I **think** that I should be able to do really cool things with them...then I sit down and go "what the hell am I supposed to do with this thing???"
So...I had noticed that a few of my crafty friends, as I am blog-stalking them (yeah I think that's a thing)...have done a STENCILED class with ONLINE CARD CLASSES
Turns out there are all kinds of cool online classes you can do, but I thought I would start with stencils since I have never used any of the ones in my stash (shame shame shame).
So I signed up, easy peasy lemon squeezy, watched the video on inking stencils and made two cards!! YAY me!!!
Here's the first one I tried:
I used Whisper White cardstock (SU), Mowed Lawn distress ink (Tim Holtz), blending tool and felts (Tim Holtz), Mini Chicken Wire stencil (My Favourite Things), 2" circle punch (SU), a piece of vellum for the sentiment, versamark, white embossing powder, white twine, green bling and The Right Words stamp set (dylusions by Dyan Reaveley).
Here's the second one I made:
I used Whisper White cardstock (SU), Dusty Concord distress ink (Tim Holtz), blending tool and felts (Tim Holtz), hexagon stencil (Heidi Swapp), a piece of vellum for the sentiment, versamark, white embossing powder, purple bling and Messages for Mom stamp set (SU).
Can't wait to watch more of the videos and learn more cool stuff!!

My project started out as a card and ended up as an 8x8 layout...not sure how that happened but I am pretty pleased (if I do say so myself) with how it came out.

Shopping Our Stash #147 - Tax Man (Numbers)
It's Tuesday!!1That means it's time for another SHOPPING OUR STASH challenge! Hope you are ready to play along!! This week we're featuring the Tax Man...so we wanna see lots of numbers on your project for this challenge.
My brother, mum and dad all have birthdays within the next week or so. I made this card for my brother who will be 42 on April 17th. I think on the inside I will write "ya ya ya I know, you will never be as old as me." We are only 14 months apart in age!
LOTS of stash items in this card including the Old Olive, Pacific Point and Real Red cardstock (SU), the white cardstock is from a supply given to me by my crafty friend Georgina. I tried to match the bakers twine (The Twinery) to the cardstock, it's close enough, but not exact. The design paper is also SU as is the Pacific Point Ink.
So with all those stash items I also felt pretty good about using a never before inked Just Sayin' stamp set and Word Bubble framelits dies (also SU).

I am sure I am going to hear about it from my English parents for defacing a picture of the Queen with such random abandon...but you know...that's how I roll...
I started with a random picture of HRH that I found online, fiddled with the colour of it a bit, printed and layered it on cardstock then cut it out. I am particularly proud of myself for using a stamp set that has been in my possession for only a few days!! YAY ME!!!
