SoSS #58 - Q is for Quilts

Edna has been expanding her crafty horizons and has been trying her hand at quilting. Now, she'd like you to do the same.

Q is for quilting, you can make a quilt themed project or use paper piecing.

I paper pieced a quilt pattern. Please admire this card. It was so EFFING fiddly I will never ever ever never make another one.

I started with 8 1" squares, cut them in halves to make the star quilt pattern. Layered that on a piece of cardstock and ran the whole thing through the cuttlebug to get a quilt-like pattern.

Took WAY longer than it should have, but I am pleased with the result.

SHITE I USED TO MAKE THIS CARD:

  • Crumb Cake and Very Vanilla cardstock (SU)
  • Design paper (SU - retired)
  • Paper piercer and template (SU)
  • Walnut Stain distress marker (Tim Holtz)
  • Gathered Twigs distress ink (Tim Holtz)

Shopping Our Stash #249 - Think Ink

Thanks for popping by today to check out the newest SHOPPING OUR STASH challenge.

This week the crew would like you to "Think Ink"

We want to see lots of ink on your project, but no colouring!!

I rarely need an excuse to make an inky mess in my crafting, so I loved this challenge!

I used an acrylic block and overlapped four different distress inks to make my colour block background. Then another distress ink to stamp the trees and sentiment.

I also inked up the edges of the layer and the sentiment to match the trees.

Easy peasy, lemon squeezy!

Shite I used to make this card:

  • White cardstock (Fireworx)
  • Acrylic block (SU)
  • Broken China, Spiced Marmalade, Mustard Seed, Shabby Shutters and Gathered Twigs distress inks (Tim Holtz)
  • Lovely as a Tree stamp set (SU)
  • Happy Everything stamp set (Lawn Fawn)
  • Mini ink blender tool (Tim Holtz)

Scraptures Finally Friday - April 22, 2016

Last week's Finally Friday was a layout of Joel and I at the Garth Brooks concert last month.

This week's layout is Kevin and I from January 27 of this year. We went to see Alan Doyle & The Beautiful Gypsies in St. Catherine's

Poor Kevin, he is very patient with all my selfie requests

My lovely in-laws gave me the tickets as a Christmas gift - lucky girl huh??

I may have seen Alan Doyle once, twice or twenty times...his live shows are awesome and we had great seats in the front row of the balcony!

And yes, that is an Alan Doyle guitar pic you see in the corner!

Friends of ours who were also at the show (who are teeny tiny in front of the stage in the picture) snagged it for me!! Thanks Charlene and Alex!!!

Shite I used to make this layout:

  • Max "Shark Attack" design paper (Bella Blvd)
  • Be Different Sticker Fundamentals (Fancy Pants Designs)
  • Be Different Ticket Roll (Fancy Pants Designs)

I inked up an embossing folder with some distress inks, spritzed it with water, ran it through the cuttlebug and then sanded the bejeeezus out of it.

Scraptures Finally Friday - April 15, 2016

This week's Finally Friday layout for Scraptures is Joel and I getting up to no good downtown Hamilton after the Garth Brooks concert.

There were so many people and so many cars downtown (and road blocks) that it took us over an hour to meet up with Kevin for our ride home.

Not sure when I told Joel to make a "mean" face he decided to do fish lips...clearly he does not spend as much time downtown Hamilton as I do...that's just not very intimidating LOL

I love the sketchbook design paper and thought it made a good background for this layout and funny picture of the two of us.

SHITE I USED TO MAKE THIS LAYOUT:

  • Max "Text Me" and "Rockstar" design paper (Bella Blvd)
  • Max "Treasures & Text" (Bella Blvd)
  • Letter stickers

Shopping Our Stash #247 - You Stamped With WHAT???

This week the SHOPPING OUR STASH crew want you to use something on your project that you wouldn't usually associate with paper crafting (well at least not in the usual way).

I created a textured background using Black Soot distress ink and a paper towel.

Once my tag was painted and stenciled, I covered the entire tag with the distress stain. Then (using a piece of paper towel bigger than the tag) I pressed down on the tag to pull up the excess distress ink and in the process got a really cool textured design in the background!

You may have to zoom in on the picture to see the paper towel design.

SHITE I USED TO MAKE THIS TAG:

  • Manilla craft tag (Ranger)
  • Woodgrain stencil (Tim Holtz)
  • Broken China and Frayed Burlap distress paints (Tim Holtz)
  • Black Soot and Gathered Twigs distress stains (Tim Holtz)
  • Water spritzer (Tim Holtz)
  • Paper towel
  • Thrift Shop ephemera pack (Tim Holtz)
  • Tuxedo Black ink (Memento)
  • Mini ink blender tool (Tim Holtz)
  • Big Chat stickers (Tim Holtz)
  • Jute string (Tim Holtz)
  • Stapler

As always we would love for you to play along with us!!

I took Joel to his first concert on March 26

It was an AWESOME show. I've been a fan of Garth Brooks for a very very long time and I was so excited to finally have a chance to see him perform live!

This week's SCRAPTURES Finally Friday layout uses a couple of pictures I took at the concert (not bad considering I took them on my phone)

Please admire our matchy matchy CAMO Garth Brooks hats LOL

SHITE I USED TO MAKE THIS LAYOUT:

  • Max "Text Me" and "Rockstar" design paper (Bella Blvd)
  • Max "Treasures & Text" (Bella Blvd)
  • Max "Trinkets" (Bella Blvd)
  • Max "Die Cut Cards" Letter stickers

Shopping Our Stash # 246 - April Fools!

Hello crafty friends!

Thanks for coming by to check out the latest SHOPPING OUR STASH challenge.

Our theme this week is April Fools

This week the crew wants to see a secret element on your project or you can use a faux technique.

I struggled with an idea for the challenge, whose idea was THIS for a challenge anyway?? Yeah, it was mine...seemed a good idea at the time.

After many hours of pinterest and google searching for an idea I came across this SLIDE CARD TUTORIAL BY JULIE DAVISON

Clearly I don't follow instructions well, the first one I didn't put the slider part in the right place and I punched the tab upside down.

My second attempt was more successful and I came up with this:

And here's what it looks like when the hippo slides up (that's my tricky element):

SHITE I USED TO MAKE THIS CARD:

  • White cardstock (Fireworx)
  • Year Four syamp set and dies (Lawn Fawn)
  • Let's Party design paper (Simple Stories)
  • Winter Snowflake design paper (Echo Park)
  • Color Vibe "Mustard" design paper (Simple Stories)
  • 1" circle punch (SU)
  • Tuxedo Black ink (Memento)
  • Peacock Feathers, Peeled Paint, Spiced Marmalade, Picked Raspberry & Mustard Seed distress inks (Tim Holtz)

SoSS #56 - J is for Joke

Edna for one is glad that April Fool's is behind us. She is clearly not amused!!

Now the old bird is playing a prank on us all with the new SoSS challenge...J is for Joke.

I love dropping this line when someone makes a joke that flops or when they laugh at their own joke

**cough cough brother and nephew cough cough **

Doesn't she look like she just heard an AWFUL joke??

SHITE I USED TO MAKE THIS CARD:

  • White cardstock (Fireworx)
  • Sunday Afternoon mat stack (DCWV)
  • Image (The Graphics Fairy)
  • Computer generated sentiment
Join the sisterhood won't you? We'd love for you to play along with us!

Check out the SoSS BLOG for all the details on the challenge and while you are there please share some crafty love with the sisterhood and our guest designer.

Speaking of joining the sisterhood, if you've always wanted to, there is still time!! We are holding a SNARK OFF to adopt a few new sisters (or brothers). Check out the SNARK OFF POST for all the details.

Scraptures Finally Friday - April 1, 2016

I have a bunch of pictures printed that I want to scrap. My goal for the SCRAPTURES Finally Friday projects this month is to do at least one layout a week.

Here's what I made this week using the September 2013 kit which featured "Well Played" by Carta Bella.

We play a LOT of board games in my family, sometimes we are even good sports about it (but not usually).

The picture in the layout this week is my brother, son, dad and nephew playing Star Wars Monopoly in December 2015.

The picture of the layout isn't great, it was pouring rain out when I took it. And, for the record, that is a leaf on the table...not poop...even though that's what it looks like!

SHITE I USED TO MAKE THE LAYOUT:

  • Well Played design papers and stickers (Carta Bella)
  • Informal - Formal Half a Bitties letter stickers (ProvoCraft)
