Back to School ATCs

Looking for my SoSS K is for Kraft post?? Please click HERE

Joel and I spent some time in the craft room this afternoon. I wanted to make some Back to School ATCs for a swap I am in and for the most recent WICKED WEDNESDAY ATC CHALLENGE

I have a super cute September Sock Monkey digi from BUGABOO STAMPS so we decided to use that for our ATCs. We also thought it would be fun to make the ATCs look like chalkboards. We started with black cardstock and rubbed chalk all over it, then used a dry paper towel to remove the excess chalk.

I used Tim Holtz distress markers to colour my ATC, added ruler washi tape to the side and used the Picket Fence distress marker to write "Back 2 School" in the corner.

While he is not AT ALL excited about going back to school, Joel liked the idea of making a Back to school ATC...he used SU markers to colour his ATC and got a little more creative with the washi tape than I did. He also thought the sock monkey would enjoy playing basketball on the school yard, so he drew a basketball for him to play with.

Not bad for his very first attempt at an ATC...and I am pretty sure his colouring skillz are better than mine!!! LOL

We'd like to enter our ATC's into Wicked Wednesday #120 - Back to School

SoSS #15 - K is for Kraft

We always knew that Edna was a krafty old bird, this week she and the snarky sisters would very much like you to join in and get yer kraft on!!

I love the vintage look / feel that kraft cardstock brings to a project.

In my efforts to be well ahead of the game for Christmas cards, I made another Christmas card. This has the potential for snark on the inside dontchya think??

This was pretty quick and easy to make so it might make the cut for our annual United Way Christmas card campaign at work...we'll see what else I come up with between now and then.

Shite I used to make this card:
  • Kraft cardstock (Recollections)
  • Black and red cardstock (Recollections)
  • Santa's list stamp set (SU)
  • Tuxedo Black ink (Memento)
  • Ink blender tool (Ranger)
  • Fishtail Banner die se (YNS)
  • Design paper (SU)
Be sure to visit the SOSS BLOG for all the details on this challenge and show my teammies some crafty love while you are there.

Want to play along? You know you do! You have until 11:55 pm (EDT) on Friday September 5 to upload your kraft project to the SOSS BLOG.

Shopping Our Stash #165 - Chipping Away

This week the team at SHOPPING OUR STASH is "Chipping Away"
For this challenge we'd like you to use something made of chipboard (old collection of chipboard shapes?) OR make your own chipboard embellishment.

I have a whackload of chipboard stuff - I bought a bunch of SU chipboard ornament shapes years ago. I made a few things with them when I bought them, but they've been sitting in a drawer in my stash since then.

Fortunately the chipboard pieces came with pre-cut design paper in the same shapes. On my project the red background circle, the star and the two pieces under the "Wishful Winter" are all chipboard.

I am keeping on with my "make lots of Christmas things in the summer" with this project. I might attach a ribbon on the back to hang it, but I kind of like it just sitting there for now.

Shite I used to make this thing:
  • Die cut chipboard ornaments (SU)
  • Fabric favourites (Little Yellow Bicycle)
  • Seasonal Chit Chat stickers (Tim Holtz)
  • Bling (SU)
Be sure to visit the SHOPPING OUR STASH BLOG for all the details on this challenge and while you are there be sure to show my teammies some crafty love.

A Unique Blog Hop

My crafty friend Jessi of ONE CRAFTY MAMA asked me to participate in a Unique Blog Hop.
I have known Jessi for a few years now, we were teammies on Drunken Stampers and now on Shopping Our Stash and the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers.

I've had the opportunity (twice now) on road trips to the east coast to hang out with Jessi and her awesome family - so much fun when you get to meet a crafty / online friend  "in real life" LOL

Jessi showed us her crafty space, so I guess I should show you mine too...please don't judge me by the disaster that my craft room is...ha ha ha...who am I kidding...judge away, I KNOW it's a distaster!!

My craft room is in the basement, we live in a raised bungalow which means the top half of the basement is above ground, so I get pretty good natural light in the craft room.

Here's an overall of most of the room:

Closer look at my desk:

Cardstock and stamp storage:

12x12 paper and card kit storage (and a random paper pumpkin??):

And the super organized way (NOT) that I keep my punches organized in buckets on the floor LOL:

And finally, you couldn't visit my blog Yellow Dog Greetings without meeting the yellow dogs...

That's yellow dog #1 (Ruby) laying down and yellow dog #2 (Gordon) sitting up. My adorable little hairy minions!! They are both turning 12 this summer!

OK back to the blog hop...here is the post where I was tagged:

JESSI'S POST

And here are my answers to the blog hop questions:

1. What am I working on?

Usually projects for my design team duties at Shopping Our Stash and Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers

I am also trying to get a head start on my Christmas cards this year and from time to time Christa asks me to do some fun projects for Scraptures

2. How does my work differ from others of its genre?

I am not really sure that my work differs greatly from other crafty peeps. In fact I get some of my best ideas from projects that other people have created - and YES I always link and give credit to wherever that idea came from!

I struggle with CAS cards and have been making an effort to make cards that are more clean and simple (I have a tendency to over-embellish)

I do love ALL things Tim Holtz, inks, stamps, stencils, embellishments, tools...I have a picture of Tim that my friend Spike sent me hanging on my desk in my craft room...is that CREEPY??? LOL

Oh and my colouring sucks, that's how my work differs, clearly I didn't pay attention in kindergarten when we learned how to colour!!

3. Why do I create what I do?

Crafting is my therapy. My quiet time in the craft room is my get-away from real life. I can sit in there, turn the radio on and just do something fun.

I like creating cards for other people, for special occasions or for no reason at all. Who doesn't like to get happy mail?

I'd like to do more scrapbook layouts, I love making 8x8 pages, just haven't done any in a while for some reason...hmmmmm

4. How does your creative process work?

Sometimes it doesn't, LOTS of times I end up pitching a half finished project into the recycle bin LOL

I start with a basic idea of what I want to make, or a theme for a particular challenge.

Rarely does the idea in my mind at the beginning look anything like the finished project at the end...I guess that's creative process???

For next week I am tagging two more crafty friends:

Michelle of Maybe Creative

I got to know Michelle through Scraptures and we have also worked on two design teams together (Drunken Stampers and Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers). Fun that we don't live too far apart so we get to see each other at Scraptures crops. Michelle was also was kind enough to let me tag along with her to Vicky Boutin's year sale this summer :)

and

Shari of Ain't That Artsy Fartsy

I got to know Shari through Drunken Stampers originally...she's like my sister from another mister! We share an adoration for Mr. Tim Holtz and an affinity for 80's music! I love that Shari takes us through her creative process on her blog step by step - awesome!!

Be sure to visit Michelle and Shari's blogs on Monday August 25th when it will be their turn to post about themselves and then tag more players for the Unique Blog Hop!

Yes...I am still making Christmas cards!!

Last weekend some friends and I had a scrappy / crafty yard sale at my house. Part of what is fun about that is we end up trading with each other LOL.

I posted some of my stuff on Kijiji and ended up swapping some more stuff with another stamper this weekend too. One of the stamp sets that I swapped for was this awesome Christmas set...Holiday Sentiments by Inkadinkado.

I thought this set would be good for the annual Christmas card campaign that we do at work for the United Way. I couldn't wait to get these stamps inked up!

Here are the four sample cards I made:

White cardstock (Recollections)
Cherry Cobbler seam binding ribbon & ink (SU)
White sweater trim ribbon (SU)
Stapler and staples
Bling (SU)

 White cardstock (Recollections)
Tuxedo Black ink (Memento)
Black ribbon (Michaels)
Bling (SU)

White cardstock (Recollections)
Gumball Green ribbon & ink (SU)
Bling (SU)

White cardstock (Recollections)
Early Espresso ink (SU)
Cherry Cobbler ribbon (SU)
Bling (SU)

While the boys are away...

The boys are at the Hamilton Ti Cats game this afternoon (too chilly and rainy for me LOL). So while they are gone I have been having a super productive afternoon in the craft room!! Three challenges for my design teams and about 10 more Christmas cards so far!!

I made this card with the intention of entering a washi tape challenge - but of course, I missed the deadline...ah well...will just add it to the growing stash of Christmas cards.

Shite I used to make this card:

  • Cherry Cobbler cardstock & ink (SU)
  • White cardstock (Recollections)
  • Christmas washi tape (SU)
  • Burlap ribbon (SU)
  • Holly image (from Vicky Boutin's yard sale)
  • Noel stamp (traded with another stamper)

As for the boys...Joel seems to be enjoying his first CFL game

UH OH! This is what happens when you show up wearing Calgary Stampeders colours!! The Ti Cat mascot takes "eat em raw" seriously!!

Christmas in....August

Looking for my "Back in the Day" post for Shopping Our Stash??? Please click HERE

Yep...I am still making Christmas cards (and ATCs)...I am going to be soooooo far ahead of the game come December...if I can convince myself to actually part with the Christmas cards I have been making all summer :)

The card and ATC below were made for swaps for a crafty group I belong to on Facebook. The card made its way to Sherry in Nova Scotia and I made 5 of the ATCs to swap with Barb, Deb, Lynn and Sandra in various places in Ontario (and kept one for my collection).

I love what other people have been doing with doilies, so of course I had to buy a pack at Vicky Boutin's yard sale last month - and yep - I actually used a few!!

Here's the card:

And here's the ATC:

I used the five petal punch to **try** and make a poinsettia. I punched two red and one green, spritzed them with water, squished them up and then heat dried them. I'm pretty happy with how they came out :)

Shite I used to make these cards:

  • White cardstock (Recollections)
  • Christmas paper pack (Vicky Boutin's yard sale)
  • Doilies (Vicky Boutin's yard sale)
  • Five Petal flower punch (SU)
  • Bling strip (Michael's)
  • Silver brad (Michael's)
  • Chit Chat stickers (on the card - Tim Holtz)
  • Water spritzer (SU)
  • Heat gun

Shopping Our Stash #164 - Back in the Day

This week's SHOPPING OUR STASH challenge is "Back in the Day."

We would like you to use something that you used to use back when you started stamping (hammer to set eyelets, old plastic templates you'd trace with a knife tool that pre-date dies, texture plates you'd rub with a special tool to get texture onto your card stock (pre-dates embossing folders); if you use clear stamps now, use rubber; etc.)
-OR-
Images of something nostalgic (images of an old telephone, old sewing machine, pattern ladies, etc., BUT NOT just a vintage/shabbychic look).

This was a bit of a toughie for me, I have either sold or given away most of the stuff I used when I started stamping oh so many years ago!! I do however still have my Stampin Up coloured chalks...do you remember these??? I wish mine still looked like this, I have lost all the applicators and most of my chalk squares are broken LOL

I've tried to sell those suckers in at least three yard sales, and no takers...good thing I guess so I could use them for this challenge!
A chalkboard background using black cardstock, white craft ink and the SU chalks was one of the first thing I learned when I started stamping, but I haven't done it like this in years!!

I used a few different colours of chalk over the white inked background image and then heat embossed the Eiffel Tower, Amour and flourishy things to make them stand out more from the background. The ticket was a gift from my crafty friend JESSI.

Shite I used to make this card:

  • Basic Black cardstock (SU)
  • White cardstock (Recollections)
  • Whisper White craft ink (SU)
  • Bliss and Artistic Etchings stamp sets (SU)
  • Versamark
  • White embossing powder
  • Ticket

So let's see you rock it old school this week and join us going Back to the Day!! Visit the SOS BLOG for all the details on this challenge and while you are there be sure to show my teammies some crafty lovin!!

SoSS Challenge #14 - Z is for Zoo

Hooooray for Saturday! The sun is shining and it's the weekend! What could be better??? Why a new challenge from the snarky sisters of course!

This week's challenge is Z is for Zoo , Edna is quite adamant (and you don't want to make her cranky) that you use an animal or animal print on your project.

Visit the SOSS BLOG for all the details on the challenge and to show my snarky sisters some crafty lovin!!

I call my card for this challenge "Ode to Snooki" that girl sure does love her some bling and animal  print! Is that a Jersey thing?? I dunno...

The pretty pink ribbon flower, the chipboard arrow and the lacy blue ribbon were pressies from SISTER CHRIS.

I used heat and stick powder and glass glitter (SU) on the chipboard arrow and pink AND silver sequins (what!!??!!) to up the bling factor.

All that bling called for a sassy sentiment...I think that one works well :)
I heat embossed the sentiment to get a better contrast against the pink zebra print.

Shite I used to make this card:
  • White cardstock (Recollections)
  • Say What You Mean stamp set (Dyan Reaveley)
  • Animal print design paper (in a paper pack I got from Walmart LOL)
  • Versamark and black embossing powder for the sentiment
  • Chipboard arrow, pink ribbon flower & blue lace ribbon (gifts from Sister Chris)
  •  Heat & stick powder
  • Glass glitter (SU)
  • Pink and silver sequins (Joann's)

Want to play along with the Snarky Sisters?? Of course you do! You have until 11:55 pm (EDT) on Friday August 22 to upload your Zoo project to the SOSS BLOG

Scraptures Finally Friday - August 8, 2014

SOS #163 - Splish Splash

This week's SHOPPING OUR STASH challenge is "Splish Splash" we'd like you to use wet media... spray inks, watercolors, acrylic paint, india ink, water soluble crayons, etc...in any way at all, either as a background or with stamps as a focal point or... whatever.

I admit this challenge put the fear into me...I don't like to colour, OK that's not totally true...I do like to colour...but my colouring skills are SHITE!

However...I hope I made my SOS teammies (and fantastic colour-ers) JESSI and CHRIS proud...I water coloured....and I enjoyed it...and it doesn't look like total shite!!! YAY me!!

I used Tim Holtz' tutorial for the June 2014 tag to make the background, inking up the reverse side of the stencil with distress inks, spritzing it with water, applying to the watercolour cardstock and drying with the heat tool. I inked the edges and went over the white areas of the background with Frayed Burlap distress ink to "vintage it up" a wee bit.

I used Tim Holtz' watercolour pen with the same distress inks to colour the image, I doubled up on her hat, wings and "be yourself" to give it some dimension.

Shite I used to make this card:
  • Kraft and watercolour cardstock (Michaels)
  • Starry Starry Night stencil (Dyan Reaveley)
  • Concord Crush, Fired Brick, Peacock Feathers, Mowed Lawn and Frayed Burlap distress inks (Tim Holtz)
  • Tuxedo Black ink (Momento)
  • Winged Things stamp (Tim Holtz)
  • Filmstrip ribbon (Tim Holtz)
  • Cog pieces (Tim Holtz)
  • Game spinner (SU)
  • Twine (Lunch Bags)
  • Stapler and staples
  • Water colour pen (Tim Holtz)
  • Water spritzer (SU)
  • Ink blending tool (Tim Holtz)
  • Dimensionals (SU)
Be sure to visit the SOS BLOG for all the details on the Splish Splash challenge and while you are there don't forget to show my teammies some crafty love!!

Each week in the month of August I'll be showing you three of the super cute cards from this kit.

All I added to make these cards was white cardstock and sometimes some washi tape.

Let's see what CAS projects you can make from one of your old kits!
