Scraptures WCW - October 29, 2014

It's been a blast working with this month's SCRAPTURES card kit to showcase some of the papers and stamps that came with the kit. For my last card for the month, since it's so close to Halloween, I just HAD to use the cute little bat stamp from the FALLING FOR YOU stamp set by Paper Smooches.

I asked Christa to order me the coordinating dies that go with the stamp set - I can't tell you how many times I nearly cut the little bat's feet off!!!

Shite I used to make the card:

Falling for You stamp set (Paper Smooches)
Acorn Hollow design paper (Little Yellow Bicycle)
Black and white twine

White & black cardstock (Recollections - not from the kit)
Tuxedo Black ink (Memento - not from the kit)
Black Soot distress marker (Tim Holtz - not from the kit)

Aqua brush (Tim Holtz - not from the kit)

Shopping Our Stash 175 - Rollin', Rollin', Rollin'

Happy Happy Tuesday crafty peeps!! It's time for another exciting SHOPPING OUR STASH challenge!! This week the SOS crew would like you to use something round. Use round images (NOT just a round die-cut), or make a circle card, or use a brayer (it's long and round)  -- OR -- use a Western theme, since our fearless leader Leslie got this idea from the theme song of Rawhide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKC8pSFg1Vw]

Rollin' Rollin' Rollin' always makes ME  think of this song (yes you are welcome for that particular ear worm LOL)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYnFIRc0k6E

OK back to the challenge...here's the round thing I made:

I started with a raw cork circle, painted it with chalkboard paint, added the dots around the edge with a Picket Fence distress marker, heat embossed the sentiment and added the bow...easy peasy lemon squeezy!

There is a piece of black ribbon on the back so it could be used as a wall hanging as well.

Shite I used to make this:

  • 6" raw cork circle (Joanns)
  • Black chalkboard paint (Michaels)
  • Picket Fence Distress Marker (Tim Holtz)
  • LOL clear stamp set (Hampton Art)
  • Versamark ink
  • White embossing powder
  • Bow maker
  • White polka dot ribbon
  • Black ribbon
I had so much fun making this, I wanted to make another one...I had painted two cork circles in case the first one didn't turn out LOL

The sentiment kind of reminded me of the Addams Family...so I went with more of a Halloween theme (skulls and bats are more me than pretty bows anyway).

Shite I used to make this:

  • 6" raw cork circle (Joanns)
  • Black chalkboard paint (Michaels)
  • Picket Fence Distress Marker (Tim Holtz)
  • LOL clear stamp set (Hampton Art)
  • Versamark ink
  • White embossing powder
  • Halloween brads (gift from my friend Judy)
  • Skulls (Creepy Globugg)
  • Black ribbon
Want to play along with the SOS crew?? Check out the SOS BLOG for all the details on the challenge, and show my teammies some crafty lovin' while you are there! Until next time...keep on rollin', rollin', rollin'!!

Wicked Wednesday ATC - 129 - Day of the Dead

I was super excited to be one of the winners of last week's Wicked Wednesday challenge 128 - Halloween...you know I was ALL over that like a fat kid on a smartie (or...just me on a smartie...or even better a peanut butter cup!!!)

I had a lot of fun colouring a variety of different Frida's before I settled on this one. I love the pink, purple and green together (if I do say so myself)...and of course had to use some skull washi tape - can you see it under the purple bling???

SOS 173 - Hello Sweetie!

The 3rd Saturday in October is Sweetest Day in the US. That's the theme for this week's SHOPPING OUR STASH challenge.

The SOS crew would like you to a "sweet" theme...and be sure to tell us how you interpreted the challenge (something sweet, something for your sweetie etc.)

Just about the sweetest thing in my life is this adorable little missy...she just turned one on September 30. Miss Charlie London is the daughter of my cousin (more like little sister) Alley.

Can you believe looking at that face that Charlie was a preemie and weighed less than 5 lbs when she was born? I remember going to see her in the ICU and she was so very tiny, we weren't allowed to take her out of the incubator. We were kinda worried about her at the beginning, but only because we didn't know then what a trooper she is!

Here's the card I made for her 1st birthday...my sweet little monkey princess.

Shite I used to make this card:

  • Purple cardstock (Recollections)
  • Ella Giraffes design paper (Animal Crackers, Making Memories)
  • Baby Girl Miniatures (Bella Blvd)
  • Baby Girl Alpha + Bits (Bella Blvd)

Working on some Wild Card Wednesday projects this month for SCRAPTURES using the October card kit which features Harvest Lane by Simple Stories.

There are gorgeous design papers and great autumn colours in the kit and I am in love with the corrugated craft tape!! I also really like the stickers that look like torn washi tape - I used one under the acorn stamp and one under the sentiment, but that one is a little hard to see.

Core'dinations cardstock (Tim Holtz)
Corrugated craft tape (Little B)
Harvest Lane Expressions Cardstock Stickers (Simple Stories)
Harvest Lane Funadmentals Cardstock Stickers (Simple Stories)

SOS 172 - It's the Most Colourful Time of the Year!!

It IS the most colourful time of the year! I don't know about where you are but here in the Niagara Region of Southern Ontario the leaves have definitely started to change colour. I live at the base of the escarpment and I can see all of the beautiful fall colours in my yard and up the "mountain."

This week the SOS crew would like you to use fall colours - red, orange, rust, yellow, gold, brown, etc. on your project.

Visit the SHOPPING OUR STASH BLOG for all the details on the challenge and while you are there be sure to show my teammies some crafty love!!

Just Us Girls 261 - Word Challenge - CELEBRATE

Looking for my SoSS "I is for Iconic" post??? Please click HERE

Today is world card making day!!! Hoooray!!! Something else to celebrate - my super awesome crafty friend CHRIS is one of the new design team members at JUST US GIRLS CHALLENGE

I thought I would make a card for world card making day and enter it at Just Us Girls for their word challenge. The word to use on your project is CELEBRATE.

I had an extra card base cut and folded from my Shopping Our Stash card from last week and thought it would make a fab birthday card for the JUGS challenge.

Like the other card I made the base is 9" x 4.25" scored at 2.5", 3.5", 5.5" and 6.5".

I am a super frugal crafter...you know that piece of paper that comes with a kit of paper that shows you little samples of what each piece of the paper is in the kit? I always cut those up and use them on the card...that's what I've used as background here on the three panels...yep I am a cheapie and I detest wasting stuff lol

Shite I used to make this card:

  • White cardstock (Recollections)
  • It's a Celebration Collection Kit (Carta Bella)
  • It's a Celebration Element Stickers (Carta Bella)
  • White twine (The Twinery)
I'm entering this card in the Just Us Girls 261 - Word Challenge - CELEBRATE

SoSS 18 - I is for Iconic

There she is...like a candle in the wind...me thinks Edna is quite enjoying the feel of the wind in her skirts...perhaps a wee bit too much...she is certainly channelling her inner Marilyn!!

This week the sisters are challenging you to go iconic...use an iconic person, place or thing on your project.

Check out the SoSS BLOG for all the details on the challenge and while you are there be sure to show the sisters some crafty lovin'...some of us are in dire need of a hug this week!!!

I chose to use James Dean for my project. He's my favourite actor from the 50's...well of anytime really...I can't count how many times I have watched "Rebel Without a Cause". I also wanted to use my favourite James Dean picture and my favourite quotes of his... "Only the gentle are ever really strong"

For your viewing pleasure...here are a few more of my favourite pictures of James Dean.

Want to join in on the iconic fun??? You have until 11:55 pm (EDT) on Friday October 17 to upload your project on the SoSS BLOG

Retro Birthday Cards

Looking for my Shopping Our Stash post for this week?? Please click HERE

I've been having some fun this week with one of my SCRAPTURES card kits making some retro birthday cards featuring the It's a Celebration Collection Kit by Carta Bella.

Here are two cards I made using a piece of the DP that had these cool retro / vintage images on them.

I was born in the 70's so for some reason these images really appealed to me, especially the bottom one...we had such awesome birthday parties as kids...everyone would get dressed up in our fancy party frocks LOL

Shite I used to make these cards:

  • White cardstock (Recollections)
  • It's a Celebration Collection Kit (Carta Bella)
  • Chevron washi tape (We R Memory Keepers)
