Shopping Our Stash #236 - Inspired by a book...

Thanks for stopping by on this lovely Tuesday to check out the new SHOPPING OUR STASH challenge!

This week CHANA is hosting and her challenge is to make a project inspired by a book. Be sure to tell us what book you picked as your inspiration!

I based my card on "Where The Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak. It's always been one of my favourite books and some of the wee monstahs in the "Be Different" collection by Fancy Pants remind me of the wild things in the book.

Here's what I made for the challenge:

As a book inspired challenge, I wanted my card to have lots of (maybe too many??) words and a library card on it.

Shite I used to make this card:

  • White cardstock (Fireworx)
  • Be Different (Fancy Pants)
    • Design Paper
    • Sticker Fundamentals
    • Ticket Roll
    • Ephemera Pack
Visit the SHOPPING OUR STASH BLOG for all the details on the challenge and while you are there please show the rest of the crew some crafty lovin! As always, we'd love for you to play along with us!!

SoSS #51 - T is for Technique

Hello snarky friends! Thanks for stopping by to check out the newest challenge from THE SISTERHOOD OF SNARKY STAMPERS.

This week Edna and the sisters want you to put on your thinking caps and show us a technique, maybe it's something you've never tried before, maybe it's your go to...whatever it is, we want to see it AND we want you to tell us what it is.

I used a few different techniques for my card(s) this time around.

I created my own background, which I like to call Grandma's wallpaper - when my parents moved into their new home in 1989 the living room and hallway had this most awesome blue velvet damask wallpaper, it was the most amazing thing I had ever seen!!

The old pot & pan (my dad) tore it off almost immediately...but even now damask reminds me of that funky wallpaper!

Here's how I made the background:

First I embossed the piece of cardstock with the damask embossing folder, then I brayered ink over top. Then to make it look worn / distressed, I sanded the bejeeeeezuz out of it.

I also inked up another piece of white cardstock in coordinating ink to cut out the word so it would be all matchy matchy.

Then, thanks to my ever-so-smart-friend-Betty I ran the hello through my Xyron sticker maker...ha ha ha I will never have to worry about gluing fiddly words again! Thanks for that tip Betty!!

I was so impressed with my grandma's wallpaper background that I made another one.

Shite I used to make these cards:

  • White cardstock (Fireworx)
  • Cracked Pistachio distress ink (Tim Holtz)
  • Smoky Slate ink (SU)
  • Damask embossing folder (ProvoCraft)
  • Sanding block (SU)
  • Xyron creat-a-sticker
  • Scripty Hello die (Lawn Fawn)
  • Fishtail Banner die (Your Next Stamp)

Shopping Our Stash #233 - Colour Me Monochromatic

Happy first Tuesday of 2016 crafty friends!

Thanks for coming by to check out the new SHOPPING OUR STASH challenge today.

This week's challenge is Colour Me Monochromatic,  the SOS crew want to see your one colour project.

You may notice some (most or all) of the design team have focused heavily on pink for this challenge, we have subtitled the challenge {{GAH pink!!}} in honour of Leslie, who was not a great fan of all things pink and would regularly exclaim {{{GAH pink!!}} at the sight of too much pink.

I on the other hand think you can never have too much pink and set out to make an entirely pink card. My card is based on this one I found on Pinterest. Here's what I came up with:

Shite I used to make this card:
  • Pink cardstock (Recollections)
  • Swirly embossing folder (ProvoCraft)
  • Swiss Dots embossing folder (ProvoCraft)
  • French Script embossing folder (ProvoCraft)
  • Paper crimper
  • Scripty Hello die (Lawn Fawn)
  • Beautiful Wings Embosslits (Sizzix / SU)
Visit the SHOPPING OUR STASH BLOG for all the details on the challenge and while you are there please share some crafty lovin' with the rest of the crew. As always, we'd love for you to play along with us!!
