Shopping Our Stash - Challenge 153 - Background Check - TAKE 2

Why I am I doing a second take on the Background Check challenge? Because I am a dumb a$$ that's why!

I failed to read the guidelines for the challenge which clearly state to use a background stamp or stamp your own background...keyword there being STAMP.

Nope, I didn't stamp the background on the first card, I used stencils and ink, exactly what we were told NOT to do (that's where the dumb a$$ comes in).

So, here is my revised take on the challenge and I PROMISE that I stamped this time.

I used the print pattern background stamp and STAMPED IT with versamark then heat embossed it with clear embossing powder. Then I used my alcohol ink applicator and felt pads with three different distress inks over top of the embossed background.

Next I spritzed it with a little water and used the heat gun to dry it, being very careful NOT to set the whole shebang on fire...not that that has ever happened to me before **cough**

Everything on the card is from my stash with the exception of the brand spankin' new #hastags stamp set from Tim Holtz which I am totally and absolutely in love with!

SUPPLIES:
Whisper White cardstock (SU)
Clear embossing powder (Michaels)
Versamark
Print Pattern stamp (SU)
Black Soot, Worn Lipstick, Peacock Feathers and Dusty Concord distress inks (Tim Holtz)
#hastags stamp set (Tim Holtz)
Alcohol ink applicator and felt pads (Tim Holtz)
Fishtail / Banner die set (Your Next Stamp)

Be sure to visit the SHOPPING OUR STASH BLOG for all the details on the challenge...and be sure to read the instructions and STAMP your background...while you are there visit the blogs of my teammies and show them some crafty love!!

Shopping Our Stash #153 - Background Check

Happy Tuesday!!! This week at SHOPPING OUR STASH the "Background Check" challenge is to use a background stamp, or make your own background.

Visit the blog for all the details on the challenge and while you're there visit the blogs of my SOS teammies to show them some crafty love!!

My card this week is a dual purpose card, I joined a spring themed swap on one of my crafty Facebook groups...and this is the card I made for Gigi, my swap partner...hope she likes it!

I had a LOT of fun making this card...I am kinda bummed that the background didn't come out better in the picture, but I will walk you through what I did...I started with a piece of text design paper (SU), tore the edges and inked them up with picked raspberry and dusty conord distress stains. I used the same stains on a Tim Holtz clock stencil (which you can't really see), applied a big blog of stickles in the centre and smeared it over the paper with my fingers.

I did the same with the 8 layer flower to give it some dimension and ooomph.

SUPPLIES
Kraft cardstock (recollections)
Vintage image printed on photo paper (The Graphic Fairy)
Design paper (SU)
Chit Chat and Seasonal stickers (Tim Holtz)
Picked Raspberry & Dusty Concord distress stains (Tim Holtz)
Clock stencil (Tim Holtz)
Silver stickles
Flower punch (SU)
Silver brad
Bling strip (Michaels)

Scraptures WCW - May 21, 2014

So what happens after a long weekend??? Wednesday sneaks up on you really fast!! Time already for another Wild Card Wednesday over at SCRAPTURES.

I don't usually use different pattern papers on the same card, but I love it when other people do...so here's my attempt to get out of my comfort zone a little and use different papers on the same card.
I also usually keep cards pretty clean and simple, but I like the look of "over embellishing" so I tried to do that too and **might** have gotten carried away with the mini stapler...but it was fun.

The sentiment is on a wobbler, I tried to make a little video to show you...I am hoping if you click on the picture below the video ** should** open ...maybe...I've never done a video before LOL

SoSS #8 - C is for CRAP

Happy Saturday!!! Here in Southern Ontario it's a loooooongggggg weekend!! YAY!!! Happy Victoria Day!!

This week the sisterhood is backatchya with another fun challenge....C is for CRAP!! We want to see what you have in your stash that makes you think (or say out loud) "WTF??? Why did I buy that??"

For me this was an easy one...I have one particular stamp set that I have owned for some time now and hasn't seen ink until this challenge...nor will it likely ever again! I am sure I was at a class or something, made something cute and then thought "I must buy that."

It's no secret to anyone that knows me that I don't like birds. I don't like birds and birds don't like me, it's a mutual relationship of mistrust and dislike...so why then did I buy this BIRD stamp set???

To be fair, I do like owls, I like real owls, I like owl stamps...I think they are adorable...the rest of bird nation...not so much.

On the inside of this card I think I will write "may the poop of a thousand birds bring you much luck"

My other C is for CRAP on this card are this years in colours from SU, I bought papers and all the ink pads...and I don't really like the colours...this is the first time I have used the inks (other than Early Espresso which I love)

SUPPLIES
Brown and green cardstock (American Crafts)
Whisper White cardstock (SU)
Blue Skies design paper (American Crafts)
Blue Skies ribbon (American Crafts)
Early Espresso, Strawberry Slush and Coastal Cabana ink (SU)
Aviary stamp set (SU)
Bling

Want to get in on the fun?? Visit the SNARKY STAMPERS BLOG and show us your best C is for CRAP project. You have until 11:55 pm (EST) on Friday May 30th to upload your project...and while you are there be sure to visit the blogs of my teammies and show them some snarky crafty love.

Scraptures Wild Card Wednesday - May 14, 2014

Shopping Our Stash #150 - Inspiration Photo

This week's SHOPPING OUR STASH challenge is based on this inspiration photo from Pinterest.

Here's a link in case you want to check it out for yourself: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/47498971044269957

For my project, I decided to use the colours in the clock to make a vintage looking Mother's Day card.

The only thing I didn't have already in my stash for this card was the image which I found on THE GRAPHICS FAIRY. Some of the items on this project (like those flower buttons and ribon) are so old I don't even remember how many years ago I bought them!!

I started with a piece of design paper (SU) and covered the whole thing in washi tape, I wanted the colours underneath to show through but be very muted. Added the burlap and peachy sheer ribbon (both SU) and the buttons. The image I tore around the edges and brushed over with vintage photo distress ink (Tim Holtz). The sentiment stickers at the bottom are from the chit chat set (Tim Holtz).

So let's see what you can come up with based on the inspiration photo! Don't forget to upload your project on the SHOPPING OUR STASH blog an visit my teammies' blogs to show them some crafty love!!

SoSS #7 - Y is for Your Mama

Happy Happy Saturday!! Can you believe it's the first weekend of May already?? Hopefully some warm spring weather isn't too far behind!!

The Sisterhood is back this week with a Mother's Day challenge...that's right, Y is for Your Mama. Show us what Mother's Day, your mom or being a mom means to you. Visit the Snarky Stampers Blog for all the details on the challenge and to see what the design team have created this time round!

By the way don't you just LOVE the graphic that LEE made for this challenge, in the bathtub in her Doc Marten boots with a glass of wine, that's MY kind of mama!

One of the things I have always loved about my mum (that's right mum with a U) is that she always encouraged my brother and I to be who we were, who we wanted to be...I was the teenager with the multi coloured hair, too many earrings, always wearing black, too much makeup, probably had a tattoo and forever in my Docs. Not much really ever phased my mum, so my card this week is an ode to her...love you mucho my momma!!

Not sure if you can read the sentiment in the picture, it says "be who you will be my beautiful girl"
