Drunken Stampers Throwdown

You may have read on the blog, facebook or twitter that the Drunken Stampers are participating in the Design Team Throwdown Challenges on SMEARED AND SMUDGED
The first challenge was won by HAUNTED DESIGN HOUSE and they picked the theme for the second challenge - faux finishes.

Be sure to stop by the DRUNKEN STAMPERS BLOG to check out all the projects made by the Drunken Stampers design team. If you'd like to help us win a challenge (which would be awesome!!) sign up over on Smeared and Smudged and vote for us!

So here's my project...way out of my comfort zone here, I have never painted a canvas in my life...but I have to tell you it was soooo messy and sooooo much fun!! I think I will try some more (might as well since I bought some paints right???).

Believe it or not, I actually started with the tag, knowing I wanted to do some sort of faux metal, and this is what it morphed into. I wrapped the tag in tinfoil then ran it through the CB a few times to get nice deep impressions. Then I used brown and black acrylic paint to make the tinfoil look less shiny. Here's a closer look at the faux metal:

Next I got a white 5x7 canvas and painted it a mish mash of black and brown trying to get a vintage / antiquey kind of look. Next I cut and frayed the burlap, that stuff is an SOB to try and stick to canvas!!! I used some stray bits of the burlap for the "ribbon" on the tag.

For the trucks, I added distress stains (black soot, gathered twigs and mustard seed) directly to the stamps, stamped them on watercolour paper and fussy cut them out. I like that all three came out a bit different, I was attempting to get a faux photo look here (OK so I made that up). Here's a closer look:

Lastly I added the filmstrip ribbon on the left and the letters on the right and TA DA, my first canvas, altered art, mixed media thingy.

SUPPLIES:
canvas, acrylic paints and sponge brushes (Dollarama), burlap (from a Scraptures card kit), kraft tag (Michaels), tinfoil, Cuttlebug embossing folder, Tim Holtz filmstrip ribbon, Tim Holtz distress stains (black soot, mustard seed and gathered twigs), watercolour paper, Tim Holtz idea-ology alpha tiles, Tim Holtz / Stampers Anonymous stamp set - The Journey

Drunken Stampers Challenge 119 - Grease

Grease is the word....according to KELLIJO mum's the word...and I always thought bird was the word??? What IS the word exactly??? LOL

This week's Drunken Stampers movie inspired challenge is another one of my all time favourite movies GREASE...I think I learned my first swear words from this movie. I remember listening to the record (that's right I said record I am THAT old) over and over again and wishing I could have pink hair like Frenchie...with the attitude of Rizzo

Visit the DRUNKEN STAMPERS BLOG for all the details on this challenge and to show some love to the Midnight Margaritas! Don't forget to link up your card for this challenge using the InLinkz tool. You have until March 22 to do that...you might be our next Life of the Party!!

I found a super cute 50's drive in digi stamp set from DIGITAL DELIGHTS that I thought would be perfect for this challenge, so even thought it's the Midnight Margaritas' challenge week, I couldn't help playing along!!

I wanted the car and drive in screen to look kind of old / vintage so after I coloured them I went over them both with an aqua painter to move the ink around a bit.

SUPPLIES:
sunflower (Bazzill) & marina mist cardstock (SU), incredible design paper (Pink Paislee Portfolio), blue chevron washi tape, stone twine (the Twinery), grey button (Slimline), basic black, cherry cobbler & marina mist markers (SU), mustard seed & pumice stone distress markers (Tim Holtz), aqua painter

Drunken Stampers Challenge 118 - Sixteen Candles

Happy Happy Happy Saturday!!! This chick is sure glad it's the weekend...how about you???
This week's movie themed Drunken Stampers challenge is Sixteen Candles...one of my all time favourite movies!! I will always be an 80's girl and love love love John Hughes movies!!

Be sure to visit the DRUNKEN STAMPERS BLOG for all the details on this challenge and to show the Bahama Mamas some crafty love!!

You have until Friday March 15th to enter your card using the InLinkz tool on the Drunken Stampers blog...who knows, you could be our next Life of the Party!!!

One of my favourite parts in Sixteen Candles is when exchange student Long Duk Dong hangs upside down on the bunk bed and says to Samantha (Molly Ringwald's character) "What's happenin' hot stuff?"  CLASSIC!!

So, I took a more literal approach to this week's challenge using that scene, bright colours and geometric shapes that were so popular in the 80's (who didn't have a neon pink T shirt in the 80's????)

SUPPLIES:
Whisper White & Basic Black cardstock (SU), Picked Raspberry distress stain (Tim Holtz), T shirt die (My Favourite Things), image found on Pinterest

Have I told you lately...

How lucky I am and how much I LOVE my family???
Look what came in the mail this week!! My birthday present from my parents, brother & nephew!!!
I am not sure what I love more about this picture, my new personalized license plates or the old pot & pan all happy and smiley (and showing off his fancy new camera) in the background...

Tim Holtz March 2013 Tag

Eeeeeeeeeeeee it's the start of another month!!! You know what THAT means!! Time for another Tim Holtz tag of 2013. Visit TIM'S BLOG so you can see his tag (and all the cool instructions that he provides).

Here's my tag for this month, I am pretty freakin' happy with how it came out if I do say so myself!

I started with a plain white tag and covered it with the striped DP. Then I distressed the edges of the tag and coloured it up with ink. Next I cut the oval and the bunny shape inside it (and inked that as well). Then I made the grass and the sentiment banner (distressed & inked those up as well).

The two pieces of ribbon I coloured with Distress Stains, that was fun, and came out better than I hoped (despite nearly setting the ribbon on FIRE with the heat gun). I even frayed the edges of the ribbon to give it a more distressed look, which is totally NOT me! I will usually cut a piece of ribbon repeatedly to get it not to fray...but in this case I think it works.

Here's a closer look at the grass and sentiment banner:

SUPPLIES:
White tag, DP from 6x6 paper pack (My Mind's eye), Gumball Green core-dinatons cardstock (SU), kraft cardstock (the paper company), blue glitter carstock (recollections), Early Espresso ink (SU), crumb cake seam binding ribbon (SU), faded blue jeans & picked raspberry distress stains (Tim Holtz), happy everything stamp set (Lawn Fawn),bunny die (impression obsession), prima flowers petal pins (from Feb 2013 Scraptures card kit).
