Scraptures - Finally Friday - November 28, 2014

Happy Happy Happy Friday!! Can you believe it's going to be DECEMBER in a few days???

Friday means it's time for a SCRAPTURES Finally Friday project!!

Thanks Christa for asking me to do the Finally Friday projects this month...was great motivation to do some layouts from last year!

Next I want to work on first day of school and Christmas (2013 of course) then I can move on to 2014!!!

Here's my last Finally Friday 8x8 layout using last month's card kit featuring Harvest Lane by Simple Stories.

Grandpa de Jong and Joel at Howells doing some pumpkin slingshotting (is slingshotting a word????)

Shite I used to make this layout:

  • Harvest Lane "Made with Love" design paper (Simple Stories)
  • Harvest Lane "Expressions Cardstock Stickers" (Simple Stories)
  • Harvest Lane "Fundamentals Cardstock Stickers" (Simple Stories)
  • Harvest Lane "Border Strips" design paper (Simple Stories)
  • Acorn Hollow design paper (Little Yellow Bicycle)

  • Kraft cardstock (Recollections - not in the kit)
  • Green chevron washi tape (not in the kit)

Scraptures Finally Friday - November 21, 2014

Wow, has this week ever gotten away from me. Friday was here before I knew it and I completely forgot to post my Finally Friday layout for SCRAPTURES today!!!

Still working away with the October card kit which featured Harvest Lane by Simple Stories. It's a great collection to work with for layouts from our family trip to Howell's last fall (yes I am more than a year behind!!).

One of Kevin and Joel (and Grandpa's) favourite activities at Howell's were the pumpkin slingshots. You buy a bucket of mini pumpkins and shoot them off across the field at targets they had set up including an old car! Grandpa's goal was to bypass all the targets and shoot the pumpkins into the forest!

Shite I used to make this layout:

  • Harvest Lane 12x12 Expression Cardstock Stickers (Simple Stories)
  • Harvest Lane Border Strip Elements (Simple Stories)
  • Harvest Lane 12x12 Fundamental Cardstock Stickers (Simple Stories)
  • Acorn Hollow design paper (Little Yellow Bicycle)
  • Kraft cardstock (Recollections - not in the kit)
  • Washi tape (SU - not in the kit)
  • Stapler & staples (not in the kit)

Scraptures Finally Friday - November 14, 2014

Happy Happy Friday! Hope you are staying warm as the weather gets colder, we've seen a few more flurries in the Niagara Region this week...good excuse to bundle up and stay in the craft room!!

I finished off another 8x8 layout this week for my Finally Friday challenge. Still trying to use some of the pictures I already have printed. This one is a mish mash of two different SCRAPTURES card kits, I thought they worked well together.

I used the March 2014 kit featuring Bella Blvd. "Max" and the May 2014 kit featuring Fancy Pants "Be Different"

This picture was taken last fall...and I can't for the life of me remember if Joel took it of himself or if I took it...either way it's a pretty cool picture...nice eyelashes for an 11 year old boy huh???

Shite I used to make this layout:

  • Yellow cardstock
  • Be Different "Personality" design paper (Fancy Pants)
  • Be Different Ephemera Pack (Fancy Pants)
  • Max "Borders" design paper (Bella Blvd)
  • Max "Treasures & Text" letter stickers (Bella Blvd)

Scraptures - Finally Friday - November 7, 2014

I'm on tap for the SCRAPTURES Finally Friday challenges for November.

I am determined to get caught up on some 2013 layouts before 2015 arrives!!

I have a bunch of 8x8 scrapbooks (SU) that I need to fill, for some reason I don't find 8x8 layouts as intimidating as 12x12 layouts LOL

This week's Finally Friday layout is from our visit to Howell's Family Pumpkin Farm last October.

It's crazy looking at these pictures of Joel with Grandma and Grandpa de Jong and seeing how much he has grown / changed since last year. He doesn't have those cute chubby cheeks anymore!

I used the September card kit which featured "Harvest Lane" by Simple Stories for the layout. It has fantastic fall themed design papers and embellishments.

Shite I used to make this layout:

  • Acorn Hollow design paper (Little Yellow Bicycle)
  • Harvest Lane 12 x 2 title strip elements (Simple Stories)
  • Harvest Lane fundamental stickers (Simple Stories)
  • Harvest Lane expressions stickers (Simple Stories)
  • Cherry Cobbler cardstock (SU - not in the kit)
  • Washi tape (SU - not in the kit)
  • Corner rounder punch (SU - not in the kit)

SoSS Challenge #6 - E is for Embellishment

Happy Saturday and Happy Easter snarky sisters!!! Hoping the Easter Bunny brought you lots of yummy treats!!!

This week's SoSS challenge is....E is for Embellishment...ya, I bet you thought we were gonna say E is for Easter didn't ya...well that would kind of make sense, but that's just NOT how we roll.

Visit the SoSS Blog for all the details on this challenge and to visit the blogs of the sisterhood to show them some crafty love!!

My project started out as a card and ended up as an 8x8 layout...not sure how that happened but I am pretty pleased (if I do say so myself) with how it came out.

Most of the supplies for my project are from the May card kit from SCRAPTURES which features Teresa Collins "Hello My Name Is." This is probably one of the most embellished projects I have ever made!!

SUPPLIES:
Kraft cardstock (Worldwin)
"Words" design paper, stickers, laser cut wood shapes, tags and die cuts from "Hello My Name Is" (Teresa Collins)
Black polka dot washi tape
Stone chevron washi tape (We R Memory Keepers)
On Film framelits dies (SU)
Cherry Cobbler twine (SU)
Black and white twine (The Twinery)
Bling (Stamping Bella)

Want to join the sisterhood?? You have until 11:55 pm (EST) to upload your project to the SoSS Blog.

Scraptures Tuesday's Temptation Sketch Challenge January 1, 2013

First day of 2013 is off to a good start so far. Christa posted the Scraptures Tuesday's Temptation Sketch Challenge on the blog today, click HERE to check out the original sketch and Christa's take on it.

My goal this year is to work on 8x8 layouts, I have a bunch of SU scrapbooks that I bought for a great deal off the clearance rack...so I want to focus mostly on 8x8 layouts.

My original plan was to do a one page layout based on the sketch, but I quickly realized I was not going to have enough room, so I did a two page layout to incorporate more aspects of the sketch.

Part of the challenge was to do a layout without pictures, which was hard for me, I usually start with the pictures and plan the layout around them.

Here's page 1

And here's page 2

Everything I used on both pages is from a scrapbook kit from SU from 2011, feels good to use up some of the supplies I have been "hoarding."

Thanks for lookin!!!

Scraptures NSD Blog Hop!!

Wooo hoooo!
The National Scrapbook Day blog hop is underway at Scraptures.

Here's a link so you can join in all the fun!
http://scrapturesblog.blogspot.ca/2012/05/national-scrapbooking-day-blog-hop.html
I had so much fun with the blog hop - admittedly since I started making cards, I am a scrappin' delinquent! Scraptures has been a great inspiration to get me scrappin' again.

For the blog hop I chose to scraplift Chelle's red layout.
Here is a link to her layout:
http://maybecreative.blogspot.ca/2012/05/national-scrapbooking-day-blog-hop.html

In looking at our recent cruise vacation pictures, I noticed I was wearing a red tank top in every picture (I didn't realize I had more than 1 red tank top!!!), so I thought red would be a good choice for my layout.

Thanks for lookin!

My Old Pot and Pan

Here's another layout I did this morning
This is my all time favourite picture of my dad, who I affectionately refer to as the "old pot and pan"
If you can't read the caption under the photo, here's what it says:

This has always been my favourite picture of the old pot and pan
It's how I remember him as a kid
Out on Rock Lake, big bushy beard, smelling like fish guts
Memories of summers spent at Algonquin Provincial Park

Way Hey Hey ...

One of the challenges on the Scraptures online crop last weekend was to make a music themed page.
As soon as I read it I knew what I wanted to do...a page with some of my Great Big Sea tickets.
Then I remembered I had the autographed poster from the show in Hamilton in 2010...so I added that as well...and here's what I came up with...thanks for lookin'

Young at Heart Challenge

I am on a roll today with the Scraptures online crop challenges!

YAY!! Another scrapbook layout challenge.

For the "young at heart" challenge, I used this picture of my dad who to me is the epitome of young at heart.

When my brother and I were growing up, he was always the one causing trouble (breaking windows with snowballs).

I love seeing my Dad with my nephew, being a very hands on Grandpa...taking him camping, fishing, playing games, being silly...all the things my brother and I enjoyed growing up.

Part of this challenge was to incorporate squares.

16 candles challenge

16 candles challenge, a movie from the 80's, my decade...
LMBO...I HAD to do this challenge.
As soon as I read it, I knew exactly what picture I wanted to use.
Hope it gives you a giggle

Some Like It Hot Challenge

Next challenge, another scrapbook page.

This one was themed "Some Like It Hot"...perfect for a cold January Saturday...

I used a picture from the first cruise DH and I took in 2009.

This was our first stop on the cruise, Princess Cays in the Bahamas....the cruise line's private island...it was absolutely beautiful!!

Beautiful girls challenge

The next challenge I attempted this morning was a "beautiful girls" themed scrapbook layout.

I am loving getting back into scrapbooking again, those Scraptures ladies are a good influence!!

For this challenge I couldn't think of any more beautiful girls than Candice, Holly, Alley and Carole, who were all bridesmaids in my wedding.

These girls were troopers, Holly was 8 1/2 months pregnant, it was March, snowing and they all braved the cold withough complaint to get some great wedding pictures.

The picture I used on this layout was before we headed to the Ancaster Old Mill, standing beside our big SUV limo. Kyle insisted on riding in the limo with the girls, and I wanted my Dad by my side too.

Look at me go!!

The ladies over at the Scraptures forums have been a great inspiration and motivation for me this weekend

I have been seriously delinquent in my scrapbooking since I started making cards (5 years ago!!)

This weekend I did a 12 x 12 scrapbook page of #1 phew's grade 8 grad & did7 pages in a scrapbook from a 2009 cruise!

I am on a roll!!

Here is the page of # 1 phew's graduation, sorry the picture isn't very good, the page is too big to fit in my scanner...

For Niblet / Thelma

My friend Niblet / Thelma is the queen of scrapping and all things crafty (IMHO)
It has been soooooo long since I did a scrapbook page...I am over 4 years behind.
I check Niblet / Thelma's blog often to see what she has been up to (yes I stalk my friends' blogs) and am constantly in awe at her amazing scrapbook pages.
Niblet / Thelma also introduced me to a new craft forum - Scraptures - and I joined a swap to make a scrapbook page
It went kinda like broken telephone, one person makes a page, sends it on to the next person and so on...so it will be interesting to see how it comes out in the end
Here's my contribution, I dedicate it to Niblet / Thelma as she has inspired me to do more scrapping (hee hee we'll see how that goes).
So this page is from a road trip to Manitoba in 2006, we had gone out to see Kevin's cousin Herman on the combines when a bad storm came up real fast.
