If you arrived here from DONNA M'S BLOG, you're in the right spot! If not and you want to start from the beginning...please go to TERRA'S BLOG and start from there.
Anyone that knows me knows I have an affinity for all things skull, I have a collection of skulls on a shelf in my craft room, a girlie skull tattoo and lots of skull-licious awesomeness!
I made two different projects for the blog hop (mostly because I wasn't entirely sure one was going to work out so I wanted to have a back-up plan).
First up is an Ace of Spades / Sugar Skull card. If you have a mum like I do (who likes to go to casinos) you have LOTS of decks of cards...they are fantastic for craft projects! Some are a little harder to distress (like this one) because they are plastic coated...but if you work at it for a bit it comes along eventually.
For this card I started with basic black and old olive cardstock and retired design paper (all SU) that I can't remember the name of. I heat embossed the Sugar Skull (BOMBSHELL STAMPS) and coloured it in with forest moss and mustard seed distress markers (Tim Holtz). I also used black soot distress stain (Tim Holtz) to ink up the edges of the playing card.
Here's a closer look at the skull:
The next project I made was the one I wasn't sure was going to work...but overall I am pretty happy with how it came out. If you want to try to make one, here's a link to the template & instructions:
MARTHA STEWART COFFIN TREAT BOX
When I started making this I was thinking it would be fun to fill it with Hershey's Kisses...but then I had an even better idea, I could make it an eternal sleeping place for my little friend Nosferatu who was made for me by my friend Jen.
Turns out it wasn't as hard to make as I thought it was going to be once I figured out which lines to score and which lines to cut (ha ha).
I used a thinner black cardstock (the paper company) and the same design paper (SU) that I used on the card above (yes I like things to be all matchy matchy). I used small and large tag punches (SU) to make the gravestones on the top and side and added a few bats (another SU punch), after all Nosferatu is a vampire!!
I did the gravestone text on my computer, inked the gravestones and bats with black soot distress stain (Tim Holtz), wrapped some green and black ribbon around the coffin and VOILA
