Scrapfest in Kitchener

Jen and I made a last minute decision this morning to head to Kitchener to Scrapfest... We had a short (but sweet) visit with some of our Stampin' Canada friends when we got there... What's better on a sunny Saturday than a little road trip and shopping for scrapbooking / card making supplies???? Not much :)

Steampunk ATC swap

Cat over on Stampin Canada is hosting a steampunk ATC swap this month

I really like making ATC's - they are so small and cute

I wasnt too sure what steampunk was, so luckily she shared some examples...basically it's making things look vintage, a mish mash of styles and items...So here's what I did...

Newsprint design paper from SU, distressed and inked the edges, stenciled the clock over top, all in soft suede...Added the string, little tags, birdcage and brad, layered it on soft suede cardstock and a back layer of cardboard (you cant see that), then added the silver clip on the left...So what do you think????

Quilt card

Although its kinda fiddly, this will be my new favourite way to use up scraps of design paper and cardstock. Each small square is .75" x .75".

I started with a piece of white paper 3.75" square to adhere the pieces to. Once they were all attached in the pattern that I wanted, I ran it through the cuttlebug - can you tell this is my new fave embossing folder from Stampin' Up?? (yep I used it on the card base as well).

Here is a link to the tutorial on SplitCoastStampers:

And here's my card:

Inlaid embossing

Another technique that I have wanted to try is inlaid embossing. To do this you attach your shapes to your cardstock before you run it through your cuttlebug or big shot, making it look like the shapes are part of the paper.

In this case I adhered the hearts before embossing the paper in the cuttlebug...pretty cool effect...I like it :)

Faux Canvas

One of the techniques we learned at Stamp a Rama last weekend was faux canvas, demonstrated by everyone's favourite SU upline ML! Basically you put crystal effects over top of a stamped image and then drag it in different directions with a toothbrush COOL! When it dries it looks like canvas or linen almost. Here is ML's swap card from Stamp a Rama which uses the faux canvas technique:

And here's my version:

Stamp A Rama

I think I posted before that I was going to Stamp a Rama on April 2 Jen, Val and I had a fab time! It was such a fun day! A whole day of card making...what could be better than that? I would highly recommend this event, there may be another one in the fall... Here are my pics of the projects we made - please keep in mind that I don't tend to follow instructions, so the actual samples in some cases were quite different from what I ended up with. The stamp set we got with registration was Nature Walk, so all of the cards (except the cupcake ard and tag) were made with that set, here we go... This cute little tag was attached to our goodie bag:

We made 2 copies of this card, one we kept and the other was donated to the Ronald McDonald House in Hamilton:

I have the bestest friends ever!!

I heard recently that the best thing a man can do for his health is get married, and that the best thing a woman can do is cultivate her relationships with her girlfriends.

I am soooo very lucky to have the best friends a girl could ever hope for.

Having said that, I had to share with you this awesome cute adorable SOCK MONKEY card that my friend Lise made me for my birthday.

She hand cut that sock monkey!! Now that's love...thanks Lise :)

Cupcakes part two...

I have been delinquent in posting the fab cards that Jen made for our cupcake class a few weeks ago.

Here they are...yummy enough to eat huh???

This one had just the right amount of colouring in the mini cupcakes...even for me :)

I love love love the colour combination in this next one!
